Summary: The study is significant as it contributes in the formation of the reading enjoyment and reading abilities of students. It may sounds ambitious, but knowing the reading difficulties of the high school students will some way elevate the deteriorating image of our educational system. This is because as already mentioned, the needs of the students will not be met, they will be more encouraged to read in English which will surely enhance their reading ability and upgrade their reading proficiency level which may lead to the improvement of their achievement in the rest of the subject areas since reading is the tool in learning other subjects. With this idea in mind, the researcher will be guided in planning a school-based reading program that will embody provisions that will cater to the needs of the students.
