The organization of automated data processing has in the past ten years undergone profound changes and developments. From the original rigid and monolithic computer center organization a variety of forms have developed that combine improved cost efficiency with a flexible adaptation to the particular needs of the user. Decentralization and distributed data processing once were catchwords that seemed to forecast the imminent demise of the computer center.
