Summary: Many books have been published on the subject of systems and data processing. This book is different from them. For example, it does not deal with any particular systems technique or a specific business information system. It will not teach anyone how to program a computer or how to select a piece of hardware. Rather, the subject of this book is the whole systems and data processing environment as it applies to business. The book describes the basic processes through which most business information systems are created. It analyzes basic systems and data processing functions. Last, but not least, the book explores how an effective information systems unit should be organized and, taking into consideration its objectives and a given business environment, how it should be staffed, managed, and controlled.
