There are many related reasons for the third edition of Economics for the Consumer. A basic reason is the fact that economics, just like any other science, is a dynamic discipline. Data and information have to be updated, reanalyzed and reinterpreted. A good example would be the General Appendix on Tourism. Since 1973, when the second edition was published, there have been major strides made in tourism that need to be recorded and communicated. Our tourism strategy has become more sophisticated in its marketing approach. Secondly, the profile of Philippine tourists has been altered in a significant manner. The Japanese, no longer the Americans, account for the bulk of tourists who come to the Philippines.
