It is now sixteen years since this book was published primarily as a laboratory manual for undergraduate medical students. This latest edition has been made more compact by relegating some information. At the same time, useful additional information has bee incorporated in a concise manner. This book consists of three sections. The first section comprising sixty pages, details the qualitative and quantitative experiments commonly performed in an undergraduate laboratory. The middle section includes demonstration experiments, organ function tests, overview of acid: base and electrolyte imbalance, analysis of cerebrospinal fluid, applications of enzymes in medicine and tumor markers. This section ends with interpretation of biochemical data, in the form of case reports. The last section presented in 28 pages, deals with general aspects of analysis of cell, proteins, amino acids, enzymes, carbohydrates, lipids and nuclear acids.
