The title "El Filibusterismo," comes from the Spanish word filibustero, which is defined by the dictionary pf the Royal Academy of Spanish Language in Madrid, thus : "el que trabajaba por la emancipacion de las que fueron nuestras provincias ultramarinas," or "the person who worked for the emancipation of our former overseas provinces."
