Coastal resources provide food and livelihood for the Philippine people and make a large contribution to the national economy. Clean coastal waters and healthy coastal habitats provided sustained economic benefits to the Philippines. Olongapo is located at the southern entry point to Zambales province and at the north-western edge of Subic Bay, the city of Olongapo shares a place on the island of Luzon with Manila, the capital of the Philippines. This growing urban area of more than 400,000 residents is situated approximately 70 miles north of the capital city.
