520 _aThis volume is a revision of the 1966 edition. The material in the first edition has been up-dated and the theoretical and practical base upon which the topic is built has been broadened. Continuing professional developments have made both actions necessary. The book is intended for those who are involved in assisting the career planning and development process. Increasingly, this process is being recognized as a team activity in which several professionals participate. This book emphasizes that several individuals do play significant parts in the process and that they can perform their roles best when each understands and utilizes the contributions of the others. The work of the school counselor is more effective when it is supplemented by that of the classroom teacher, the librarian, and other school staff members. In non-educational settings, counselors in rehabilitation agencies, community organizations, or other agencies are working cooperatively with psychologists, social workers, administrators, clergymen, and psychiatrists. Not all of these workers play major roles in the career development process; nevertheless, the contribution of each is significant. It is hoped that this book can be helpful in increasing the coordination of these various efforts.
